Permits and activities

Apply the Nunavut Food Safety Regulations and Code that took effect in 2024. Keep the food-premises permit, operation and maintenance manual, menu/process approval and renewal evidence. Review country-food activities and raw service with the environmental health authority.

Legislation · Government of Nunavut — Territorial Printer

Training and required coverage

Keep accepted food-safety certification for the operator, completed within the previous five years, and trained-worker coverage when the operator is absent. Retain the records and make operating instructions available to employees.

Guidance · Government of Nunavut — Department of Health

Local requirement

For country food, retain source/harvest identification, permitted species, receiving condition and handling method. Raw animal foods and time-only service have additional controls and consumer-information requirements; the four-hour route cannot be borrowed by another province without local acceptance.

Local requirement

Plan Inuktut customer service, signage, advertising and required restaurant communications under the Inuktut Protection Act. Use Inuinnaqtun in Kugluktuk/Cambridge Bay and Inuktitut in other municipalities as applicable. Keep reviewed translations and plan language services, including restaurant notices, warnings and invoices; an English/French document alone does not establish compliance.
